Original Research Health Services Research andManagerial Epidemiology Medicines Compliance and 1-5ª The Author(s) 2015 Reimbursement Level in Portugal Reprints and permission:DOI: 10.1177/2333392815601972 Maria da Conceic¸a˜o Constantino Portela1and Adalberto Campos Fernandes2 AbstractDuring a severe financial crisis, it is a priority to use scientific evidence to identify factors that enable therapeutic complianceby patients. This study aimed to evaluate a possible association between the number of patients who attended a medicalappointment and had medicine prescribed and the number of these same patients who purchased the prescribed medicine andwhether the level of reimbursement was a deciding factor. We perform a correlation analysis at primary care centers in Portugal, between 2010 and 2012 (n ¼ 96). We found a moderate to high positive association, which is statistical significant, between thenumber of the patients with medicines dispensing and medicines reimbursement levels. The correlation coefficient varies from.5 to .63 (P < .01). The compliance increases along with the increase in the reimbursement levels.

Hot Advance for Thermoelectrics Cheap organic molecules could more efficiently convert waste heat into electricity. Inside fossil-fuel and nuclear-power plants, a large share of energy in fuel is wasted as heat rather than converted into electricity or mechanical power. But the search for a practical material that can convert at least some of this waste heat into electricity has been long and frustrating. Researchers have long known that some inorganic semiconductors can do this. Indeed, deep-space probes have been powered by using such materials. But these inorganic materials are costly and difficult to make, and have low efficiencies. Now, new research shows that certain organic molecules produce voltage when exposed to heat. Ultimately, they could be much cheaper and thus more practical to implement."This is the first demonstration that you can use organic molecules in this kind of energy generation," says Rachel Segalman at the University of California, Berkeley, who lead the latest work. Experts had previously theorized that some organic molecules could have the qualities necessary to generate electricity from heat. But until now, they lacked experimental proof, which the Berkeley researchers were able to provide by isolating and measuring the properties of just a few molecules of organic substances called benzene dithiols at a time. The researchers trapped a few molecules between a sheet of gold and the ultrafine gold tip of a scanning tunneling microscope, which is so sharp it can end in a single atom. They heated up the gold surface and measured, via the microscope tip, the voltage that was created.

Key-Dependent S-Box Manipulations Sandy Harris1 and Carlisle Adams2 1 Kaya Consulting, 6 Beechwood Avenue, Suite 16 Vanier, Ontario,Canada, K1L 8B4 2 Entrust Technologies, 750 Heron Road Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, K1V 1A7 Abstract. This paper discusses a method of enhancing the security ofblock ciphers which use s-boxes, a group which includes the ciphers DES,CAST-128, and Blowfish. We focus on CAST-128 and consider Blowfish;Biham and Biryukov [2] have made some similar proposals for DES.The method discussed uses bits of the primary key to directly manipu-late the s-boxes in such a way that their contents are changed but theircryptographic properties are preserved. Such a strategy appears to sig-nificantly strengthen the cipher against certain attacks, at the expense ofa relatively modest one-time computational procedure during the set-upphase. Thus, a stronger cipher with identical encryption / decryptionperformance characteristics may be constructed with little additionaloverhead or computational complexity.

In parallel, the economic potential of skarn, pegmatite and greisen ore deposits of Europe was assessed and requirements for profitable mining defined.

Decarbonising Energy End Use Background Paper No.6 Final Report from the NESC Secretariat Ireland and the Climate Change Challenge: Connecting ‘How Much' with ‘How To' Joe Curtin December 2012 Decarbonising Energy End Use Chapter 11. Introduction The coming together of two previously isolated technologies in the 1960s––computers and the communications––had paradigm-shifting consequences for the way economic and social systems operated. Up to the late 1960s the communications system was characterized by centralized switching stations via which communications (telegram and telephone) were routed and users were manually connected. In the new system these hierarchies were flattened, allowing the flow of information to and from each user across various networks. This automated system was governed by a flexible and constantly revised series of protocols that were interpreted by computers at each node .

Bioprocess Modelling for Learning Model Predictive Control (L-MPC) Mar´ıa Antonieta Alvarez1,, Stuart M. Stocks2, and S. Bay Jørgensen1, 1 CAPEC, Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, Technical University of Denmark, Søltofts Plads, 2800 Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark 2 Novozymes, Bagsværd, Denmark Abstract. Batch and Fed-Batch cultivation processes are used exten-sively in many industries where a major issue today is to reduce theproduction losses due to sensitivity to disturbances occurring betweenbatches and within batches. In order to ensure consistent product qualityby eliminating the influence of process disturbances it is very importantto consider implementation of monitoring and control and thereby signif-icantly improve the economic impact for these industries. A data drivenmodeling methodology is described for batch and fed batch processeswhich is based upon data obtained from operating processes. The chap-ter illustrates how additional production experiments may be designed toimprove model quality for control. The chapter also describes how the de-veloped models may be used for process monitoring, for ensuring processreproducibility through control and for optimizing process performanceby enforcing learning from previous batch runs through Learning ModelPredictive Control (L-MPC).

Data Hemorrhages in the Health-Care Sector1 Center for Digital Strategies Tuck School of Business Dartmouth College, Hanover NH 03755 Abstract. Confidential data hemorrhaging from health-care providers pose financial risks to firms and medical risks to patients. We examine the consequences of data hemorrhages including privacy violations, medical fraud, financial identity theft, and medical identity theft. We also examine the types and sources of data hemorrhages, focusing on inadvertent disclosures. Through an analysis of leaked files, we examine data hemorrhages stemming from inadvertent disclosures on internet-based file sharing networks. We characterize the security risk for a group of health-care organizations using a direct analysis of leaked files. These files contained highly sensitive medical and personal information that could be maliciously exploited by criminals seeking to commit medical and financial identity theft. We also present evidence of the threat by examining user-issued searches. Our analysis demonstrates both the substantial threat and vulnerability for the health-care sector and the unique complexity exhibited by the US health-care system.
